THE protector

THE PROTECTOR introduces Adan, who lives with his family in Oaxaca, Mexico, just a few steps away from the Pacific Ocean. He is dedicated to caring for the endangered iguanas at his family’s sanctuary and protecting the sea turtles that nest on the beach near his home.

We sit beside him as he watches a mama turtle lay her eggs and then carefully collects the eggs and places them in a "nursery”, where they are safe from poachers and predators. Weeks later, he and his sister release the hatchlings into the sea.

We accompany Adan and his family as they prepare for Dia de los Muertos, the Day of the Dead, an annual fiesta that honors loved ones who have died. Adan loves this time of year, when sea turtles return to the beach where they were born to lay their eggs and the spirits of his ancestors return home for a visit.
